October 6th – THE VOLUNTEER by Sarah Northwood
It’s so hard trying to keep up with my studies and earn enough money to stay out of debt. At times like this, I wish Mum and Dad were still around, but no amount of wishing will change what’s happened. They are gone, and sooner or later I’m going to have to get used to that.
The advert for those volunteer studies looks promising though. They only test the drugs they already know are safe, don’t they? It’s loads of money too, just for a few days. It really could get me out of a hole and maybe it will give me time to think about things, get my head straight.
October 7th – HAG’S BREATH by Sue Oldham
We have all encountered witches in fairy tales of old. We have read of them in childhood stories, railed against them in fevered nightmares. The witches you are about to meet in Hag’s Breath are perhaps not quite what you have known before. Some are wizened crones, some are painfully beautiful; some are as ordinary as you or I. They inhabit wide-open, snowy plains, dark, haunting forests, and of course, the fabled cottage in the woods. Still others could so easily be the girl next door…
From the Middle Ages to the Modern Day, Hag’s Breath takes the reader on a journey of dark magic across time and territory into the blackest heart of witchery and evil. Prepare to be spellbound as you go with them through the pages of the story; just hope they do not look up and spy you as you watch them…

But her corrupt parole officer won’t let her. He has every intention of using her magic to suit his own dark plans. She finds herself wedged between a rock and a jail cell. Doing what he wants will cost her freedom and her newfound family. If she tells on him—no one will believe her. He’s a respected supernatural corrections officer and she’s—just a WITCH ON PAROLE.
October 9th – RISE OF THE RIVER MAN by L.S. O’Dea
Too strong to be purchased, too tainted by a lost fight, Mutter waits for execution. Death is the only way out of this cell, unless another Almighty purchases him. And one does – as long as Mutter swears to obey.
Guards always obey.
There’s food and a soft bed. And screams from other cages, smells like nothing he’s known. They’re giving him shots, and letting him walk around the compound but nothing moves as it’s supposed to.
They trust him. He’s bred to follow their rules. But if he doesn’t escape, he’ll become food for one of those things in the other cages. Or worse… turn into one of them.
October 10th – THE SCRIBBLERS CHAMBER by J. Snow
J. Snow is a poet and author with a focus on psychological thrillers and tales of horror. Snow’s work has been described as dark, disturbing, haunting, and powerfully evocative. Her unique insight provides readers with a peek inside the splintered psyche of a child abuse/neglect and abduction survivor and breathes life into harrowing, sadistic characters, the existence of which others fear to acknowledge. Smiling in the face of adversity, Snow wields her pen as a weapon against the stigma of mental illness and gives a voice to those suffering and struggling with the symptoms of psychological disorders. When not spilling ink into stories, Snow dedicates her time to providing new/unknown and underrepresented writers with opportunities to expand their exposure.
October 11th – RESTLESS by Joshua Dyer
H: DRIVE > Summit MP4 File > PLAY
This is Douglas Allen Patterson of Waynesboro, PA. If you’re seeing this file and I’m not handing it to you, then (scoffs) I’m a paranormal investigator. My team and I are in the middle of researching the Henry McAllister estate. It isn’t what we thought. It’s stronger than that, more powerful than any of us understood. Listen. Creaks, groans, and cold spots are one thing, but this (shakes his head in his hands and sobs) What the hell is this? It wasn’t his fault (sniffles). You understand? None of it! Mom, dad — I’m so sorry.

The project, created at Si-Tec Industries as a means of warfare, a perfect killing machine, an animal genetically engineered to kill our enemies, is said to know the difference between civilians and our enemies. However, when civilians go missing in the woods and only pools of blood are left behind, the sheriff is faced with a dilemma. He can cover it all up which he swore to do and actually does, or he can choose to fight and kill the beast which he will eventually try and do.
An eleven year old boy is killed on a camping trip with five of his friends and two adults. It leads to the long time Sheriff Justice retiring at the end of his term. It changes everyone’s lives forever. Ten years pass, seeing the deceased boy’s father spiral into a drunken abyss and admitted to a crazy-house, one of the accompanying adults on the trip commit suicide from guilt, and the five boys grow further and further apart. Ten years pass before the boys deliver on their childhood pact of one day going back to the lake where their friend had been brutally murdered. Ten years pass before Sheriff Justice realizes that he had been played for a fool all those years ago and the government never captured the beast. Ten years pass before the sheriff (on a vengeful hunting trip), the boys (on a trip down memory lane), and the final surviving adult from the trip (on a vengeful hunting trip of his own) end up back in the woods of Rednest on the same night.
Their final showdowns will all come before the sun is up. Only a couple will survive the night.
